Dar la bienvenida a los dioses y crear un lugar sagrado para venerarlos. Este es, sin duda, el origen de los jardines japoneses. En la antigua religión japonesa, religión que no venera a imágenes divinas físicas, se creía que los dioses mostraban su presencia en ciertos espacios. Sin embargo, los dioses no permanecen en dichos espacios en todo momento, sino que alzan el vuelo… Para mantener a los dioses y poder contar con la fuerza de la naturaleza, las personas se esforzaron en creas espacios sagrados que pudiesen retener durante más tiempo la presencia de los mismos.

To welcome the gods and create a sacred place of worship: this was undoubtedly the motivation behind the first Japanese garden. In the ancient Japanese religion, physical images of the divine were not venerated; instead, gods were believed to reveal themselves in certain places. Yet the gods did not inhabit those places permanently; they were flightly… In order to keep the gods close and rely on the forces of nature, people strove to create sacred places that would persuade them to remain with them longer.
